The Broadcaster app is a powerful way to broadcast 1080p60 HD live video directly from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch. Powered by HEVC compression, the app provides higher quality streaming with the same bitrate as HEVC predecessors. Viewers will be able to watch your broadcast from an embedded player on your website, Boxcast.tv, or from the BoxCast app on Roku, Apple, and Fire TV.

Download Broadcaster from the App Store, and log in to your BoxCast account, using the same credentials used to log in to your BoxCast account. If you're not a current BoxCast customer you can try the Broadcaster App for free with our free trial.

The Broadcaster app provides you with two options for going live, as explained below:

This option allows you to start broadcasting immediately.

Click the Go Live Now button and select the source you want to go live from. Selecting Broadcaster will allow you to stream right from your device.

Once a source has been selected, a public broadcast named Live Broadcast will go live with a default duration of one hour. The broadcast will go through the following phases: Preparing Broadcast, Configuring Broadcast, and Live.

To schedule a broadcast with the Broadcaster app, tap on Schedule Broadcast at the bottom of the screen.

Enter your Broadcast details (i.e., Title + Description).

Tap Source and select Broadcaster.

You may see other sources depending on what other equipment you have. Selecting Broadcaster will allow for streaming right from the device.

Once a source is selected, tap the back arrow and then tap Create.

After creating a broadcast, the app will make use of the camera and microphone of your device to begin streaming. The app will configure settings and then start to stream.

When the app has configured your broadcast and your broadcast has gone live, the app will display a Live icon on the bottom-left corner indicating bitrate, viewers, and elapsed time.

To stop a broadcast at any time, tap the X button in the upper-left corner.

A dialog will appear asking you to confirm that you'd like to stop the broadcast. Press Stop and the broadcast will end.

If a broadcast has already been created through either the BoxCast Dashboard or the app, you can follow these steps.

Open the Broadcaster app and find the scheduled broadcast you'd like to go live with. Tap on the broadcast image tile to open the broadcast.

Once inside the broadcast, you may now tap Start Broadcast to allow for the live stream to begin when it arrives at its scheduled start time.

When finished with a broadcast, simply X out to be taken back to your Dashboard, where you can manage all events following the broadcast.

Please note that data transmission will be disrupted completely if you minimize the app or if you take a call. It's always best to put your device into Airplane Mode, activate Wi-Fi (wifi), and turn on Do Not Disturb. Any phone call or FaceTime will disrupt the broadcast until the call is ended.

Airplane Mode will turn cellular data off. If the cellular network is the only network you have to work with, do not put your device in Airplane Mode.

Uplink bandwidth is critical to a high-quality stream, so do your best to ensure the Wi-Fi network isn't congested and is backed by sufficient internet service.

Do I need to be on a BoxCast plan to use the Broadcaster app?

BoxCast offers a free 14-day trial. After that, you'll need to be on a BoxCast plan.

What devices are supported by the Broadcaster app?

The Broadcaster app will work on any Apple device with iOS 10 and later. iOS 11 is required for HEVC encoding.

Can I watch a live stream with this app?

No. Broadcaster is for organizations that stream live events. If you're trying to watch an event streamed with BoxCast, contact the organizations for viewing information.

Do I need hardware (like a BoxCaster or a BoxCaster Pro) to use this app?
No. The Broadcaster app uses your device and the BoxCast service to transcode and stream your broadcast.
