The ATEM Mini Pro is a powerful hardware video switcher made by Blackmagic Design. The Pro and several other models also include the ability to encode and stream video directly from the device. You can stream from an ATEM Mini Pro to BoxCast in a few different ways.

The first way is using the BoxCast RTMP integration of the ATEM Mini Pro.

The second way is using the BoxCast SRT integration of the ATEM Mini Pro.

Connecting an ATEM Mini Pro to BoxCast via RTMP

Go to the Output tab and select BoxCast under Platform.

Next create an RTMP source in the BoxCast Dashboard and call it ATEM Mini Pro.

Once created, copy the Stream Key and enter it into the Key area of the ATEM.

After you've connected your cameras and audio to your ATEM, press ON AIR either in the ATEM Software Control or on the ATEM device to begin streaming. As long as the ON AIR does not start blinking, you are sending the stream to BoxCast. A good way to double check this is to click on the Sources tab in the BoxCast Dashboard, and make sure you have a "Connected" green dot.

The ATEM Mini Pro is capable of encoding and streaming data using the SRT protocol. However, its configuration is not as straightforward as RTMP; it requires modification of an XML file used by the ATEM Software Control. This file can be found at:

  • Mac: /Library/Application Support/Blackmagic Design/Switchers/Streaming.xml

  • Windows: C:\Program Files (x86)\Blackmagic Design\Blackmagic ATEM Switchers\ATEM Software Control\Streaming.xml

Make a backup of this file in case you want to restore to original settings; then open this file in your favorite text editor (note: you will likely need to open this file as an administrator or other privileged user in order to save it).

On your BoxCast dashboard, click on the Sources tab; click on your SRT source and choose ATEM from the list of sources to see is configuration

Copy the XML snippet from the dashboard by clicking on the Copy button.

In your text editor, locate the <service> block containing <name>BoxCast</name>. After this block, after the closing </service> tag (about 70 lines below the opening tag), you’ll find a blank line. Paste the value you copied from the dashboard into that space (additional blank lines do not matter, and it may help you to see more clearly where you have entered the text in case you need to change it again). Save the file.

Open your ATEM Software Control software. Go to the Output tab and select BoxCast SRT (source name here) under Platform.

Configure the following fields:

  • Server: Default

  • Key: Leave blank

  • Passphrase: Copy the Passphrase value from the dashboard, or leave blank if encryption is not enabled

  • Quality: Choose a streaming quality that works on your network

After you've connected your cameras and audio to your ATEM, press ON AIR either in the ATEM Software Control or on the ATEM device to begin streaming. As long as the ON AIR does not start blinking, you are sending the stream to BoxCast. A good way to double check this is to click on the Sources tab in the BoxCast Dashboard, and make sure you have a "Connected" green dot.
