Connect Scoreboard Assist to your BoxCast encoder.
The Scoreboard Assist transmitter can be used wired or wirelessly.
Wired Option
If your scoreboard controller is located near your BoxCast encoder (BoxCaster or BoxCaster Pro), we recommend using the wired option for maximum reliability. Connect a USB cable between the Scoreboard Assist transmitter and the BoxCast encoder (you can use USB-A or USB-C, depending on the ports available on your BoxCast encoder).
Note: The Scoreboard Assist receiver is not required, and the transmitter Link LED will remain yellow.
Wireless Option
If your scoreboard controller is located some distance from the BoxCast encoder, use the wireless option. Use one USB cable to connect the Scoreboard Assist transmitter to the included USB power supply. Use the second USB cable to connect the Scoreboard Assist receiver to the BoxCast encoder (USB-A or USB-C, depending on the ports available). The Link LED on both devices should be blue. Maintain clear sight lines between the receiver and transmitter for optimal wireless performance.
Apply power to your BoxCast encoder.
Verify that you’re getting data from your scoreboard controller; the Scoreboard Activity light will blink blue continuously when scoreboard data is being received.
Configure your settings in the BoxCast Dashboard.
Add Scoreboard Overlays to your broadcast.
Select Automated scoreboard overlays and choose your sport.
Note: Please confirm that your sport is supported with your controller and port by checking the Matrix of Compatibility chart above.Choose any applicable sport-specific settings, and select BoxCast Scoreboard Assist from the Scoreboard Connection drop-down menu.
Configure the appearance of your scoreboard overlays by selecting team abbreviations, colors, and overlay position.
Troubleshooting
Wireless range
If your scoreboard controller is located some distance from the BoxCast encoder, use the wireless option. Use one USB cable to connect the Scoreboard Assist transmitter to its USB power supply. Use the second USB cable to connect the Scoreboard Assist receiver to the BoxCast encoder. The Link LED on both devices should be blue. To maximize wireless range, maintain a clear line of sight between the transmitter and receiver if possible. Move the units closer together if you are unable to establish a solid connection.
Pairing/Linking
Generally speaking, the Scoreboard Assist devices are shipped as a pair, and this won’t need to be changed in the field. However, if you want to use one receiver with different transmitters or need to re-pair devices, follow this procedure:
Press and hold the Pairing button until the Link LED begins flashing yellow on each device (one transmitter and one receiver).
Once both devices are in pairing mode, their Link LEDs will briefly flash blue, then change to solid blue, indicating the devices are paired and linked.
RS-485 Termination Resistor Control
Note: This control ONLY applies if you’re using a Trans-Lux Fair-Play Scoreboard Port on your controller. It won’t have an impact if you’re using any other controller or if you’re using the RS-232 connection on a Trans-Lux Fair-Play.
The Scoreboard Assist transmitter has the capability to apply an internal 120-ohm termination resistance to the RS-422/485 port. This termination is often required for correct reception of data from scoreboard controllers using this port — especially if long cable lengths are used. However, in some cases, data reception may be better without termination, so we’ve provided the ability to turn termination on and off. To change the termination state, follow this procedure:
Press and hold the Termination button until the Termination LED begins blinking.
Press the Termination button to toggle the Termination control to the desired state (Termination LED blue = termination on; yellow = termination off).
Press and hold the Termination button until the Termination LED returns to solid color, confirming the termination setting.
