Set a Passcode for Your BoxCast Spark

Learn how to set and manage a passcode for your BoxCast Spark encoder.

Written by Jim Zeller

Your BoxCast Spark encoder allows you to set a passcode, adding an extra layer of security for hands-on users of the device. This helps ensure that only users with the passcode are permitted to take certain actions, like starting and ending a live broadcast for example. This article will guide you in the different ways users can set, edit, or remove a passcode.

While only account users in the Owner and Standard User roles can see and edit a passcode from the BoxCast Streaming dashboard, other users who simply know the current passcode can edit from the Spark device itself.

There are three places you can set a passcode for your Spark.

  • During the Spark onboarding setup

  • From the Spark settings menu

  • From the BoxCast Streaming dashboard

Set Passcode During Spark Onboarding Setup

If you are stepping through the Spark onboarding setup for the first time, you will eventually be presented with the option to set a passcode.

1. Tap Set a Passcode Now.

2. Enter a passcode and then follow the subsequent on-screen prompts to set the passcode.

If you have an active passcode and have enabled the Onboarding Setup to appear each time the Spark is powered up, the passcode step will simply confirm a passcode has already been successfully set. You cannot edit or remove the passcode from this screen.

Manage Passcode from the Spark Settings Menu

If you initially skipped setting a passcode during the Spark onboarding setup, or you wish to edit or remove the passcode, you may do so from the Spark settings menu.

1. Tap the gearwheel button in the upper-right corner of your Spark screen.

2. Tap the Device Passcode button.

3. Tap the Create a Passcode button to enter a passcode, and then follow the subsequent on-screen prompts to set the passcode.

If you are editing or removing a passcode, you will see the following.

Manage Passcode from the BoxCast Streaming Dashboard

You may want to set a Spark passcode but you're not in the same location as your device. If you have browser access, however, you can manage from the Sources page while logged in to your BoxCast Streaming dashboard.

Click on your Spark and then the Edit Settings button, followed by toggling on Device Passcode. Enter your passcode, and then click the Save Changes button.

You can click within any single box, or click in a box and just backspace as far as needed, in order to edit your passcode. If needing to remove a passcode from your Spark, simply toggle the feature off and save your changes.
