This article explains how to manage audio sources, control audio levels, and monitor audio activity on your Spark encoder. You’ll learn how to adjust and mute analog and embedded HDMI audio signals, understand the audio meters, and see how RemoteMix interactions are displayed on the device. We’ll also cover how Spark handles audio source settings during broadcasts and what notifications to watch for when troubleshooting audio or storage issues.

On-Screen Audio Controls

You can now adjust and mute the analog and embedded HDMI audio signals directly from the Spark interface.

Here’s what you can do:

  • Adjust the level of analog and embedded HDMI signals

  • Mute either signal individually.

  • Use the new Output Level control to adjust how much of each signal is sent to your program mix.

  • dB labels for Output Level and Input Gain will briefly appear when adjusting levels, so you always know where your settings stand.

Mute + Audio Source Settings While Scheduling a Broadcast

You can now mute and unmute audio sources directly from the Spark UI. Because of this, we’ve made adjustments to how audio sources and mute settings work when scheduling broadcasts or configuring your sources.

Here’s what to know:

  • Selecting Embedded Only or Analog Only in Source Settings or Broadcast Settings will mute the other audio source.

  • Selecting All Sources ensures both Embedded and Analog are unmuted.

  • A new Follow Encoder Selections option lets your Spark respect the audio controls made either on the Spark UI or remotely through the RemoteMix dashboard (if you’ve configured a compatible mixer).

How settings are applied:

The Source Settings and Broadcast Settings you specify will always be applied at the start of a broadcast.

You can override these settings mid-stream from either the Spark UI or RemoteMix dashboard.

If your broadcast is interrupted (due to power loss or network disconnection), the Spark will revert to the original Source and Broadcast Settings when restarting.

For example, if you muted HDMI audio and the Spark powers off, it will power back on with Spark unmuted.

The mute state at the end of your broadcast will reflect the last change made, whether on the UI or RemoteMix.
