BoxCast allows you to create a reusable output that can send to any RTMP destination, including YouTube.

There are 2 steps to this process:

  • Schedule the event on BoxCast (like normal).

  • Schedule the event on Youtube.

Remember that while you can stream via RTMP to YouTube, BoxCast has built in integrations that provide an easier setup. We have a support article for YouTube that can help.

Here's how to set up your RTMP destination to YouTube the first time.

Scheduling YouTube Stream

Go to YouTube Studio (https://studio.youtube.com/).

Click Create and choose Go Live.

Choose Schedule Stream in the upper right and then select Create New in the window that pops up.

Type in the title, description, etc. and choose Streaming software under How do you want to go live? Fill out any other details you'd like to include, then hit Next.

Choose any customizations you'd like, then hit Next again.

Make the visibility Public, then choose when you'd like to go live. When you're finished, hit Done.

Be sure to Enable Auto-Start & Enable Auto-stop, as this will allow Youtube to go live and end without you having to manually doing anything in Youtube Studio.

Now you can pull the Stream Key and Stream URL. Use the Copy button for the best results.

Create Integration in BoxCast

This step should only need to happen one time.

After you have your static stream key and url, head to the BoxCast Dashboard. Go to the Settings page, followed by choosing Integrations, and then click the +Add Integration button.

Copy Stream URL from Youtube and paste into Server URL

Copy Stream Key from Youtube and paste into Stream Key

DO NOT USE AUTHENTICATION

Leave Max Resolution at None (use highest)

Then Save Changes

Selecting your Destination in BoxCast

When scheduling your BoxCast broadcast, you will choose the RTMP Destinations tab in the Destinations section.

Click the Add drop down and select the RTMP integration you created for YouTube.

Schedule the rest of your broadcast as normal and you are done!

If you have the RTMP integration set up properly in BoxCast we will automatically send data to YouTube once the stream goes live. As long as you chose Enable Auto-start in Youtube you will not need to click any further buttons in order for Youtube to go live.

Using RTMP Destination Week After Week

If you plan to use the RTMP destination from BoxCast week after week, the RTMP Destination in BoxCast does not need to be updated. That's because the stream key and url stay the same each time. However, YouTube still needs to know when to expect your stream. So you'll still need to schedule the YouTube stream every week. We highly recommend doing this ahead of time.
